About Murari Sweets

Murari Sweets began over a century ago with a simple dream. Shri Murari Lal Seth, born in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, had a deep love for cooking from a young age and dreamed of creating sweets that would bring instant joy with just one bite. His journey took him from his hometown to Kumbakonam, a vibrant temple town in Tamil Nadu that he felt drawn to, often saying, “The town is full of spirit and it felt like I was meant to be here.” He started with a modest selection of handmade North Indian sweets like Dry Jamun, Milk Peda, Soan Papdi, Gulab Jamun, Halwa, Angoora Boondi, Manikara Boondi, Inji Pakoda and Cashew Pakoda that were rare in the South back then.

His sweets quickly won over the people of Kumbakonam, including British colonists, who appreciated the quality and presentation of his treats which were often wrapped in banana leaves. Shri Murari Lal often gave away free sweets to those who couldn’t afford them, a gesture of warmth and generosity that built a reputation for Murari Sweets that has lasted for over 109 years.

Shri Murari Lal’s son, the late Shri Devidoss, took his father’s passion and expanded it further. He broadened the range to include Bengali sweets, fancy mewa sweets, milk-based delicacies, pure ghee sweets and traditional South Indian treats, always keeping quality at the heart of the business. For him, it wasn’t just about making sweets but making them affordable so that everyone could enjoy them. His love for people, especially kids, was evident and he would never miss a chance to hand out their signature dry jamun to little ones, a sentimental favourite from his father’s recipes.

The tradition of Murari Sweets was further advanced by the visionary leadership of Mr. D. Ramesh Kumar, Mr. D. Ganesh Kumar and Mr. D. Dinesh Kumar. They transformed the single-store operation into a multi-store chain, incorporating quick-service options like Indian chaat and Chinese cuisine. Their efforts led to the opening of multiple branches in a decade and significant growth in bulk orders for festivals and corporate clients. They also expanded the brand through e-commerce, national food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato and international exports to countries including Singapore, Malaysia, the USA and Russia.

The legacy now continues with the fourth generation, led by Mr. Ankit Agarwal, Mr. Pratham Agarwal, Mr. Manish Agarwal and Mr. Harsh Agarwal. They are dedicated to furthering the brand’s reach, enhancing management, production, packaging and distribution and introducing new product lines. Their goals include expanding Murari Sweets throughout Tamil Nadu and establishing a presence in Chennai. Their cloud kitchen model on Swiggy and Zomato is just the first step in this new journey.

Murari Sweets remains committed to the same principles it was built on: quality, warmth and the simple joy of sharing something sweet. Each generation has added its own touch, but the heart of Murari Sweets is still about making people smile.
